DOWSIL 737

Main features

  • One-Part Neutral-Cure Silicone
  • 3 to 6-Minute Skin-Over
  • Primerless Multi-Substrate Adhesion

Product Description

DOWSIL™ 737 Neutral Cure Sealant is a one-part, oxime-cure silicone rubber supplied as a non-slumping paste for industrial bonding, sealing, formed-in-place gasketing, assembly, installation, and maintenance operations. It cures at room temperature when exposed to atmospheric moisture and adheres without primer to many common plastics, metals, painted surfaces, glass, and rubbers. The sealant develops a skin in 3–6 minutes and becomes tack-free in approximately 14 minutes at 25°C and 50% relative humidity. After cure, it remains flexible across a stated service-temperature range of -65°C to 177°C and provides weather resistance for assemblies exposed to sunlight, rain, snow, and temperature extremes.

Key features

  • One-part neutral cure: Moisture-cure silicone paste requiring no component mixing.
  • Non-slumping application: Stays in place after dispensing without sagging or running from the applied surface.
  • Rapid surface cure: Typical skin-over time of 3–6 minutes and tack-free time of 14 minutes at 25°C and 50% relative humidity.
  • Primerless adhesion to many materials: Adheres to many plastics, metals, painted surfaces, glass, and rubbers, subject to application testing.
  • Flexible cured silicone: Typical elongation greater than 300% after seven days of cure at 25°C and 50% relative humidity.
  • Broad service-temperature range: Cured material remains flexible from -65°C to 177°C.

Application and cure

Apply the sealant to clean, dry surfaces in a continuous operation. Tool immediately after dispensing and before the surface skin forms. Atmospheric moisture is required for cure, so the material should not be used in totally confined spaces without moisture exposure.

Surface condition: Surfaces must be clean and dry. Clean metal and glass with a suitable solvent and an oil-free rag while following the solvent supplier’s safe-handling instructions.
Priming: Priming is not required for most glass, aluminum, steel, and other common substrates. Conduct a test placement before general use.
Tooling window: Tool with light pressure immediately after application and before the typical 3–6 minute skin-over period has elapsed.
Handling condition: The sealant typically cures to a handling condition in 24 hours when exposed to atmospheric moisture.

Recommended application sequence

Stage 1
Prepare the surfaces
Remove contamination and confirm that the bonding or sealing surfaces are clean and dry. Evaluate adhesion on the actual substrate before production use.
Stage 2
Dispense continuously
Apply a continuous bead to the required joint, interface, gasket path, or assembly area. The non-slumping paste is intended to remain where placed.
Stage 3
Tool and allow to cure
Tool immediately with light pressure to spread the sealant against the substrate. Maintain exposure to atmospheric moisture during cure and avoid totally confined cure conditions.
Storage and handling

Store at or below 32°C in the original unopened container. Uncured material may be removed from tools and nonporous surfaces with an appropriate solvent. On porous surfaces, allow excess material to cure and remove it mechanically. Review the current safety data and container label before handling.

After cure

Applications

Industrial bonding and sealing applications

Industrial appliance assembly showing a sealant bead used between appliance components

Appliance and OEM assembly

The sealant is designed for diverse OEM and assembly operations, including use as an alternative to mechanical fasteners on large and small appliances and for sealing refrigerator or freezer liners. Refrigerator and freezer liner use does not constitute FDA approval for food-contact applications.

Formed-in-place silicone gasket applied as a continuous bead around an industrial enclosure flange

Formed-in-place gasketing and maintenance

The non-slumping paste can be applied in continuous gasket paths and maintenance seals where the material must remain in position during application. Atmospheric moisture access is required, and the product is not recommended for totally confined spaces or continuous water immersion.

Electrical connector and instrumentation enclosure protected with an applied silicone sealant

Electrical and instrumentation protection

Documented uses include waterproofing electrical components, sealing coaxial connectors, and protecting instrumentation assemblies. Evaluate adhesion, cure access, electrical requirements, and the compatibility of sensitive metals or polycarbonate under the intended assembly conditions.
