Product Description

DOWSIL™ 510 Fluid is a phenylmethyl polysiloxane silicone fluid for hydraulic, motion-dampening, and heat-transfer applications. Available in nominal viscosities from 50 to 30,000 cSt, it combines high-temperature stability during continuous use at 232°C (450°F) with an estimated pour point as low as -57°C (-70°F), depending on viscosity. Its high flash point, low volatility, oxidation resistance, and relatively constant thermal conductivity support evaluation in demanding fluid systems, including hydraulic arrestors, hydraulically actuated valves and instruments, and heat-transfer equipment.

Fluid selection and compatibility

Select the viscosity grade according to the hydraulic, damping, or heat-transfer system requirements. Evaluate fluid compatibility and elastomer interactions before introducing DOWSIL™ 510 Fluid into an existing system.

Viscosity selection: Available nominal viscosity grades are 50, 100, 500, and 30,000 cSt at 25°C (77°F).
Silicone-fluid compatibility: DOWSIL™ 510 Fluid is incompatible with DOWSIL™ 550 Fluid and DOWSIL™ 710 Fluid. Determine compatibility before use with other silicone fluids.
Elastomer interaction: The fluid can swell silicone rubber. Confirm the suitability of seals and other elastomeric materials under the intended operating conditions.

Store DOWSIL™ 510 Fluid in its original, unopened container at 25°C (77°F). It has no known limit to useful life under these conditions; Dow warrants product shelf life for up to 60 months from the date of manufacture. Review the current product and safety information before handling.

Pour-point results may be affected by cooling rate and may be lower than the temperature at which the fluid melts. Evaluate multiple lots when low-temperature phase behavior is critical to the application.

DOWSIL™ 510 Fluid is used where hydraulic response, compressibility, temperature resistance, and heat-transfer capability are important evaluation factors.

Hydraulic arrestors and snubbers
The fluid’s relatively high compressibility supports use in hydraulic arrestors and other systems requiring shock absorption or motion damping.
Hydraulically actuated valves and instruments
Applications include hydraulically actuated valves, subject to system-specific engineering and qualification requirements.
Heat-transfer systems
Its oxidation resistance, temperature resistance, and relatively constant thermal conductivity support evaluation as a heat-transfer fluid across a wide temperature range.
