- Spray Brush or Flow Application
- 30-Minute Tack-Free Drying
Product Description
3M Scotch-Weld Elastomeric Coating EC-5816 is a one-part synthetic-elastomer coating for polyurethane foam, glass wool, cork, and other fragile porous insulation materials. It forms a tough, flexible layer that resists abrasion, heat, flame, weathering, water, gasoline, aircraft fuel, and specified lubricating fluids under the stated conditions. The coating can be sprayed, brushed, or flow coated; spray application is recommended for foam. It becomes tack-free in about 30 minutes and should dry for at least 48 hours before service. A typical 3 to 5 mil coating is built in multiple coats with drying between passes. The product can also be applied to primed metal.
Key features
- Flexible abrasion-resistant protection: Forms a tough, flexible coating that protects fragile porous insulation from abrasion during service.
- Spray, brush, or flow application: Offers multiple application methods, with spray application recommended for polyurethane foam.
- Defined drying before service: Reaches a tack-free state in about 30 minutes and requires at least 48 hours of drying before service.
Applications
Applications include protective finishing of polyurethane foam, glass wool, cork, and other porous insulation materials in aerospace manufacturing and maintenance, as well as coating primed metal.
